Wedding at La Foce, in the heart of Val d’Orcia, means choosing a landscape that is not only visually iconic, but officially recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Among Italy’s 59 UNESCO-listed sites, Val d’Orcia stands out for its perfectly balanced landscape. Rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and a sense of harmony that feels almost designed.

It’s exactly this kind of setting that makes couples fall in love with La Foce.

But as with many iconic venues, not everything about La Foce reveals itself at first glance.

As extraordinary as it is, La Foce comes with specific constraints.

Follow along with us through Kristen and Kolby’s three-day celebration. Their experience will help you understand how to turn your vision into a seamless celebration, making the most of the venue’s strengths while carefully navigating its unique challenges, crafting the perfect experience for you and your guests.

How Kristen and Kolby Chose La Foce for Their Tuscany Wedding

When Kristen and Kolby first started planning their destination wedding in Italy, they didn’t have a venue, they had a vision. And a very clear idea of the kind of experience they wanted to create.

A few years earlier, they had already experienced an Italian wedding firsthand: Kristen’s sister’s celebration near Siena, which we had the pleasure of planning. That experience stayed with them, shaping both their expectations and their trust in the process.

From the very beginning, one thing was clear. They didn’t want just a wedding day. They wanted a three-day celebration, designed around their guests, with a strong opening moment, a memorable wedding day, and a final pool party to close the experience.

At the start, they were exploring venues across Italy, from Lake Como to the Amalfi Coast. Tuscany wasn’t the immediate frontrunner.

And then, La Foce happened.

After a carefully curated venue search, they stepped into the iconic gardens of this Val d’Orcia estate, and that was it. No hesitation, no second thoughts. Just a very clear sense of alignment: this was the one.

Set in the heart of a UNESCO-protected landscape, La Foce is known for its monumental gardens, where geometry, perspective, and nature come together in a perfectly balanced composition.

And this is exactly what makes it so compelling for destination weddings. For couples bringing guests from abroad, the setting becomes part of the experience itself and creates an immediate sense of place.

That instant connection between the venue, the landscape, and the people experiencing it, is what often turns a venue into the venue.

And at La Foce, that moment tends to happen very quickly.

What You Should Know Before Choosing La Foce

As with many iconic venues, La Foce comes with its own set of dynamics. Elements that aren’t always immediately visible, but that can influence how the overall experience unfolds.

One of the most relevant aspects to consider is how the spaces are structured and intended to be used. La Foce is incredibly defined in its layout, which means that each moment of the wedding naturally finds its place within the venue, but with limited flexibility to adapt or shift the flow.

For many couples, this works beautifully. For others, especially when planning a multi-day celebration, it requires a more thoughtful approach.

When it comes to events beyond the wedding day itself, the available options become more limited. The only space suitable for welcome events or post-wedding gatherings is the internal courtyard: a more enclosed setting, without the open views that define the main garden areas.

As a result, moments like a pool party often envisioned as part of a multi-day destination wedding are not directly feasible at La Foce. The pool, in fact, is reserved for resident guests only and cannot be used for events involving the full group.

None of these aspects take away from the beauty of La Foce.

But understanding them early on makes all the difference in how the experience is designed, especially when the goal is to create something that feels seamless from beginning to end.

The Strategic Choice That Changed Everything

Once these dynamics became clear, from the limited flexibility of the spaces to the constraints on additional events, the focus shifted from adapting the experience to the venue… to designing the experience around it.

From the very beginning, Kristen and Kolby were clear about one thing. They envisioned a three-day celebration, with the wedding at its center, but without compromising on the opening or the closing moments of their experience.

Designing this kind of flow, however, meant working beyond the boundaries of a single venue.

While La Foce offered the perfect setting for the wedding day, it was not designed to host the full range of moments that define a multi-day celebration.

This is where the project shifted.

The strategy that allowed us to bring Kristen and Kolby’s vision to life was simple. Rather than adapting the vision to the venue, we reimagined and expanded the structure of the wedding itself.

We introduced a second venue: Borgo di Castelvecchio, located just 15 minutes from La Foce. By securing the borgo exclusively, Kristen and Kolby created a central hub for their entire wedding weekend. A place where guests could stay, gather, and experience each moment together.

This decision not only allowed them to host the welcome event and the pool party in an incredible setting, but also solved a key logistical aspect that often emerges in this area.

In Val d’Orcia, accommodations are typically spread across multiple properties. By bringing everyone into one place, the experience became more fluid, reducing transfers, simplifying coordination, and allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the celebration.

La Foce remained the stage for the main wedding day, preserved in its full impact and beauty.

Borgo di Castelvecchio became the space for everything around it.

The result was a seamless experience, where each moment had its own setting, and every choice felt intentional.

The Wedding Day at La Foce: Ceremony to Celebration

La Foce took on its central role during the weekend as the setting for the wedding day: the most structured and visually impactful moment of the experience.

The ceremony unfolded in the monumental garden, exactly where it was meant to be.

The idea was to create a Tuscan Garden Wedding that felt elevated. The space, already striking, was enhanced with a floral design that followed the garden’s natural geometry. A palette of white, blush pink, mauve, raspberry, and green softened the structure without competing with it, framing the statue altar and surrounding the central pond with romantic blooms.

One by one, the wedding party descended the grand staircase, building anticipation with every step.

Then, Kristen appeared at the top.

For a moment, everything paused. The scale of the garden, the symmetry of the hedges, the quiet tension of the scene, all of it framed that single entrance.

And as she began her walk, the space guided her forward, drawing every gaze toward the altar.

Guests then moved upward to the Italian garden for the aperitif.

As the elevation changed, so did the atmosphere. The horizon opened over Val d’Orcia, the light softened, and the energy relaxed. Guests wandered through hedges, cocktails in hand, while a live trio played in the background.

It was here that Kristen and Kolby had their first dance: on top of the monumental staircase, in the golden hour.

Dinner followed in front of the villa, revealing a new setting.

Tucked among the trees, the space unfolded as guests took their seat, more intimate and enclosed. Crystal chandeliers suspended above the tables added depth and contrast, elevating the setting without overpowering it.

As the evening progressed, the atmosphere shifted.

What started as an elegant dinner evolved naturally in energy. The saxophonist moved through the tables, guests leaned in, sang along, and formality dissolved.

From that moment on, the transition into the party felt seamless, carrying the celebration late into the night.

The Wedding Weekend Beyond La Foce: Welcome & Pool Party

The weekend began at Borgo di Castelvecchio, where guests arrived, settled in, and connected in a relaxed setting.

The welcome dinner took place in the courtyard: long tables, earthy tones, candles, and aromatic herbs creating a distinctly Tuscan atmosphere.

Food was served family-style, paired with Chianti Classico, while a folk band and string lights set the tone for the evening. A live cannoli station added a final, playful touch.

As the evening came to a close, the focus naturally moved elsewhere. Conversations slowed, glasses were set aside, and attention turned beyond the table.
Away from city lights, the sky revealed itself: clear, deep, and filled with stars. One of those quiet moments no one plans, but everyone remembers.

The final day returned to the borgo, returning into a slower and more relaxed rhythm.

By the pool, guests gathered without schedules or formalities. Just music, cocktails, wood-fired pizza, and gelato served throughout the afternoon. Surrounded by rolling hills, cypress trees, and open views, the atmosphere was light, spontaneous, and unstructured.

A different pace, but a natural continuation of the celebration.

What This Wedding Really Teaches About Planning in Tuscany

What makes a wedding like this work is not just the setting.

Tuscany is filled with extraordinary venues, each with its own character and dynamics, but none of them can simply be used without understanding how they truly function.

La Foce is a perfect example.

Its beauty is immediate, but what lies beneath requires a more considered approach. One that goes beyond aesthetics and into how spaces, logistics, and guest experience come together.

This is where planning becomes something else. Not just coordination, but interpretation, knowing when to adapt a structure, or rethink it entirely.

Because the difference is not in the venue itself, but in how you read it and build around it.

And that is what ultimately shapes the experience. Not only in this wedding, but in any destination wedding designed to feel natural, seamless, and immersive.

If you’re considering Tuscany for your wedding, the setting will always be part of the magic.

What makes the real difference is how that magic is translated into an experience you and your guests will actually live.

La Foce is the perfect setting for you if you dream of iconic views, breathtaking scenery, and a space that reveals itself gradually, surprising your guests at every step.

The rest of the experience? We will craft it together, shaping each moment around this unforgettable setting

If La Foce has captured your attention, or if you’re exploring what your wedding in Tuscany could look like, we’d be happy to help you shape it, starting from the place, and building everything around it.
